Fall in Love with Art, In Real Life
A reflection on my journey in art, and why inviting you into art spaces excites me.
Why RSVP?
Every so often, it helps to take stock, especially when something new clicks into place. After last week’s studio event with Brian Rideout, it felt like the right moment to reflect on the why behind it all.
That night marked the second event in a series
and I have been putting together: art gatherings that are fun, personal, and (we hope) genuinely interesting. We’re now *officially* calling it RSVP.One of the main reasons I have built my career around helping people buy art is because I fell for it, quickly and completely, while interning at Christie’s.
The first time I saw a Jasper Johns flag painting in a collector’s home, I was basically star-struck. It wasn’t hanging in a museum. It was above a bed, next to a glass of water and a pair of earrings. That moment shifted something. I realized I wanted to help bring art into people’s everyday lives.
Since then, everything I do has revolved around contemporary art — writing this newsletter, exploring art and tech, and helping private and corporate clients build thoughtful collections.
Now that I’m focused exclusively on art consulting and Shortly Contemporary, adding this event layer feels like a natural next step. I want to give more people, whether they’re new to art or seasoned collectors, access to galleries, studios, and conversations they might not otherwise encounter.
Because in my experience, people don’t often fall in love with art through a museum label. It actually happens when you’re invited into a space where you can relate and be curious.
What It Looks Like
Our second RSVP event took place last Wednesday, a studio visit with the incredible Brian Rideout. The event was fun (!!) and those both familiar and new to his work learned a thing or two. Art feels more urgent and more interesting when you understand where it’s coming from and the humans behind it. That’s what we want to continue to facilitate. Not just access, but a real connection to today’s culture.
Neadless to say, I am super excited about these events and how they provide a new form of access, in a way that brings more people into a world I find so meaningful.
As I continue to build my consulting business, I love that my days are chock-full of art, but I especially love that I get to help more people feel like it belongs in theirs too.
Until next time…
